Ward Churchill - ethnic fraud, academic fraud, military fraud?


850 KOA's Military Analyst Bob Newman is reporting that radical CU professor Ward Churchill - already under fire for his attacks on the victims of 9/11, an apparently fictional American Indian heritage, and several academic works that now appear to be of dubious quality (at best) - has, in fact, created a military record of near-mythic proportions out of whole cloth.

On a 1980 resume - used to attain an Affirmative Action slot at the University of Colorado, Churchill not only indicates his ethnicity as Cherokee/Creek, but describes a military record that included a tour of duty in Vietnam as a Public Information Specialist. That document may be seen here.

In addition, Churchill has spoken, as part of an explanation of his philosophical evolution, of his time as an airborne-qualified member of the US Army's 4th Infantry in Vietnam, participating in Long Range Reconnaissance Patrols (LRRPs), and hunting the Vietcong in the highlands of the North. One problem? His military service record - obtained by Newman from the National Archives, and visible on his Form 13164 (seen here), reveals that his only military training consisted of learning to drive a Jeep, and being trained in the operation of a movie projector.

As is the case with so many other current and former radicals, Ward Churchill has sought to steal the honor that rightfully belongs to the men who fought and died in Vietnam. He has done so by exaggerating his own service record, or by simply creating out of thin air a military life for himself that far outshines the one that he actually led.

Ward Churchill did serve in the United States Army, and he spent some time in Vietnam. This, alone, would have been enough to earn him my thanks, had he been an honorable and honest man. The fact that he has since dishonored the men who did serve in the hazardous duty of the LRRP, however, simply takes him down a few more notches in the pantheon of discredited frauds and amoral hucksters in which he has already earned a slot by virtue of the libelous invective that he so gleefully hurls at the victims of 9/11, his poisonous ideologies, and his outright advocacy of wholesale slaughter in service to an unthinkable cause.
